.h1 CREATE A DATA FILE
.vt 2
When you prepared YOUR VERY OWN ^040
Data Diskette, there was no data file within which to
store data. A data file must be created to let you
have a place to keep the data which you want.
.sp
Creating a Data File is simply a matter of choosing the
first function from the screen which shows you what you
can do (Type 1 and press the 'enter' key). When you
do this there will be a warning screen telling you that
if a data file already exists that data file will be
destroyed. Since you have never created such a file,
go ahead and type y and press the 'enter' key.
.sp
The first 100 records of your new data file will then
be created.
.sp
The file structure (if you really want to know) will
be as follows:
.sp
Field Field Field
No. Size Usage
----- ----- ----------------------------------
1 8 Record-number (negative if unused)
2 2 Code for ^001
3 2 Code for ^003
4 2 Code for ^004
5 2 Code for ^005
6 8 ^021
7 2 Code for ^002
8 11 ^023
9 8 ^026 ^028
10 11 ^018 Date
11 40 ^024

.vt 2
Anytime that you want to start over (maybe you are a
beginner, and made a number of mistakes in the first
ten records, and want to begin again), you can choose
#1 from the ~What you can do~ Screen. Any of the old
records will no longer be available, and 100 new,
empty records will be there for you to use.
.vt 2
Following is an example of creating 100 new records.

out of space on your diskette (or hard disk). On a
double-sided diskette, this will occur sometime after you
have about 3000 records on the diskette.
